Leslie’s Happy Hour: Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar

Any serious happy hour goer knows that Tuesdays are for tacos, and I can’t think of a better way to spend Taco Tuesday than at a Latin restaurant. You can find such a place at 1905 Towne Centre Boulevard in the Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole: Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar.

Paladar

The idea behind Paladar’s Taco Tuesday is simple. Mix and match at least three tacos (I picked four!) from among fourteen different options—including vegetarian—or try the chef-inspired specialty taco of the week. The tacos are $3 apiece and the assortment is vast: Fish, sweet potato, chorizo, chicken, beef, pork, corn, shrimp, zucchini, and my personal favorite, slow-braised duck. The menu is well-thought, with each taco having its own entirely different flavor profile.

Paladar
1. Chorizo & potato with goat cheese, smoky aioli, and hot sauce
2. Slow braised duck with pickled onion, pineapple slaw, and (delicious) aji verde
3. Crispy wild jicama with mango and jalapeño remoulade
4. Paladar’s blackened wild cobia, pickled onion & pineapple slaw, and cilantro aioli

And Paladar doesn’t skimp on the fillings, either. Hefty portions stuff the tortillas, and you might even want a fork. But maybe best of all, these tacos are sturdy. No infuriating breakage or soggy bottom sadness. Just a tortilla that’s serious about doing what it was intended to do.

If you choose to forgo the tacos on Tuesday or find yourself at happy hour on a Wednesday instead, Paladar also has a regular happy hour menu, filled with Latin street food items. Plantains and empanadas, Cubanos and ceviche! The food prices range from about $4 to $8. Margaritas and mojitos (with flavor options), as well as sangria, are $5 during happy hour. Get $2 off draft beer, wine by the glass, and rum cocktails. It is a rum bar, after all—something that becomes very clear if you glance at their full drink menu. No fewer than forty-six different rums grace their bar, in a wide range of styles and flavors: Spanish, English, French, spiced, even Maryland-made. For those unsure of which to choose, Paladar provides a handy palate guide as a key to finding your ideal rum. Do you favor bourbon? Try Flor de Caña 12 Year from Nicaragua. Are you keen on tequila? You might like Rhum JM Blanc. With $2 off rum flights during happy hour you can taste three rums of your choice, or try one of their house-selected flights.

There’s plenty of nearby parking and plenty of seating, both inside and out. There’s also plenty of time to check out their happy hour scene, which runs daily from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, as well as Sundays through Thursdays from 9:00 pm until 11:00 pm.

Make Paladar your happy hour destination for rum flights and taco delights!
